Tostones (toss-tone-ess) are like an essential vitamin for Puerto Ricans. We can not live without our delicious fried and smashed plantains, at least every now and then. This recipe for tostones topped with king crab is very tasty and easy to prepare. A great idea for entertaining a big party.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shredded king crab
  • ¼ tz tablespoons ketchup
  • ½ tsp hot sauce (Tabasco)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise
  • ½ oz chopped lettuce
  • ½ medium tomato, chopped
  • 2 green plantains, peeled and sliced lengthwise to form in 1 inch cylinders.

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, mix ketchup, hot sauce, lime juice and mayonnaise to make a sauce.
  2. Add king crab and mix thoroughly.
  3. Set aside.
  4. Fry the plantain slices in frying oil at medium-high heat for about two minutes.
  5. Smash them using a “tostonera” or any kitchen tool with a flat surface.
  6. Fry again until they become golden and crispy.
  7. Remove from the oil and let them drain excess oil (using paper towels).
  8. Add salt to taste, top with king crab and enjoy.

Bon appetit!
